Even though he has many great accomplishments to his credit, Farid Abboud is most highly regarded for being one of the longest-serving Lebanese ambassadors to the United States in history. That said, over the course of more than 40 years, there is a lot more to his career to examine. Farid Abboud’s long career got its start in 1974, with a position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beirut. Since then, he has also served as the assistant director-general of the Department of Political Affairs, which is part of Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also spent time at Lebanese embassies in diverse places such as Moscow, London and Rome.
The longest sting in his diplomatic career has been as Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, a post he held from 1999-2007. That made him one of the longest-serving Lebanese ambassadors in history. He then served as Lebanon’s ambassador to Tunisia for six years and he has been the Lebanese Ambassador to China since 2013. In addition to his long and very impressive career as a diplomat, Farid Abboud was also Lebanon's General Counsel in Los Angeles for five years in the 1990s.
