Farid Abboud has certainly had a long and significant career in service to his home country of Lebanon. Though he is probably best known as a diplomat, he also once served as the assistant director-general of the Department of Political Affairs in the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he served as Lebanon's General Counsel in Los Angeles. Therefore, he has had significant experience in both diplomatic and political service.
That said, most of his long career has been in diplomatic service, working in Lebanese embassies in Rome, Moscow and London. Ambassador Farid Abboud is best known, however, as one of the longest-serving Lebanese ambassadors to the United States in history, holding that position from 1999-2007. He is currently the Lebanese Ambassador to China, a position he has held since 2013. Between those two positions, he also served time as Lebanon’s ambassador to Tunisia from 2007-2013.
Farid Abboud also believes strongly in education. He has a Diploma of Higher Studies in Political Science from Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, where he once also served as an assistant professor of political science. In addition, he also earned a B.A. in Philosophy from France’s University of Lyon and a Ph.D. in History from UCLA in California. In addition to his current diplomatic duties in China, he has been a visiting scholar at the University of Peking since 2015.
